Desk Report:
Meta is introducing two new features on the social media platform Facebook. The two features are – ‘Fan Challenge’ and ‘Customized Top Fan Badge’. Through this, the platform hopes that the relationship between fans and their favorite creators will be closer.
Through the new Fan Challenge, any creator will be able to give specific challenges to their followers. Followers will be able to participate in that challenge through their own reels or posts. The more reactions the video or post participating in the challenge receives, the more it will be shown through a ranking on a leaderboard. As a result, the content that receives the most reactions will be at the top, and the interest in participating in it will also increase.
Such challenges are already quite popular on short-length video platforms TikTok or Instagram Reels. Some participate in dance challenges, some make videos on trending audio. Facebook is now making it more formal. There will be a specific page for each challenge. All the content surrounding that challenge will be visible on this page.
As an example, Facebook says, a food content creator can invite fans to “make a video of your favorite butter chicken recipe.”
Facebook has been testing this feature with creator Callen Allen, who has 3.6 million followers. He asked fans to “make a video about your dreams and goals.” The challenge resulted in 520 videos being submitted.
Meta said that 1.5 million challenge videos were submitted in the three-month trial.
Customized Top Fan Badge
Creators will now be able to customize their “Top Fan” badge if they want. That is, the badge that will be automatically given by Facebook can be customized.
This feature has already been introduced by popular artists. Such as Cardi B and J Balvin.
Instagram is generally known for giving more importance to creators. The platform recently celebrated the milestone of 3 billion monthly active users. On the other hand, Facebook is more known as a place to watch random content.
But Meta’s new initiatives show that they want Facebook to become an important platform for creators. And this time, it will be through people, not bots.
Notably, last week, Meta announced the launch of a Reels-style video feed on its AI app. This feed will only show videos created with AI.
